Abu Dhabi Farmers’ Service Centre

The Abu Dhabi Farmers’ Service Centre (ADFSC) is an Abu Dhabi government initiative implemented to facilitate a change in the way agriculture and agribusiness are conducted in the Western Region of the Abu Dhabi Emirate.

This encompasses the entire spectrum from on-farm production to retail sales. The broader objective being to move agriculture from a government supported sector to a more market based sector.

The Abu Dhabi Government has contracted GRM International to facilitate the formation of the Abu Dhabi Farmers Service Centre with a view to having a fully functioning, locally managed organisation in 2014.

Working on farms in the Western Region that are generally between 1.5ha and 4ha and where the farms rely on ground water that is saline to some degree, the Farm Managers will possess experience in irrigated fodder and vegetable production as well as animal husbandry predominately working with goats and sheep.

Practical on-farm work involving farm business principles, the development of new farming practices and overseeing the activities of unskilled expatriate farm workers will pay a major role in the Farm Manager position.

Reporting to the ADFSC Contract Farm Management Manager, the successful candidates will live in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi.

Roles and Responsibilities include: (but are not limited to)

• Facilitate the development of whole farm plans for each nominated client farm.
• Formulate production plans for each client farm based on market information, physical feasibility and economic viability.
• Provide management, supervision, instruction and advice to farm workers to implement production plans.
• Identify appropriate farm inputs to enable efficient production and assist management to find appropriate means of supply for these inputs.
• Visit contracted farms regularly to monitor activities.
• Assist to identify and implement innovative farming practices that contribute to increased production, economic and water use efficiency.

Selection Criteria:

• Minimum of Diploma level in further education in a related field
• Experience in one or more of the following farm production activities;
- Field Crop Production in an arid and saline environment
- Intensive livestock production in an arid and saline environment
- Fodder production in an arid and saline environment

• Experience in the development and implementation of whole farm plans and production plans
• Experiencing in supervising staff and developing capacity would be highly regarded
• Experience in the delivery of agricultural and extension programs will be highly regarded
• Language skills in English (essential), and Arabic or Urdu or Bengali (preferred)
