Title: Senior / Executive Media Advisor and Speechwriter

Number of positions: Two – one ‘Senior’ and one ‘Executive’ position

Reports to: Program Manager, SCMS

Based at: US Embassy, Baghdad

Clearance required: SECRET

Nationality: US

Job purpose:

He/she will serve as a media advisor and speechwriter for USF-I spokesmen
He/she will provide support to J9 Media Outreach section
He/she will provide professional media training and preparation services for USF-I spokesmen
He/she will: draft statements and remarks; prepare answers to anticipated questions and ‘lines to take’ documents; produce briefing sheets; and recommend strategy for working with the media
He/she will work with media outlets prior to interviews to establish logistics and the questions that will be asked
He/she will provide a written report on all media opportunities that have occurred
He/she will write, brief and produce documents and speeches at four-star executive level.
He/she will create and articulate overarching strategic communications plan for the USF-I in Iraq
He/she will articulate his/her extensive political and cultural knowledge of Iraq and the surrounding areas to a senior audience
He/she will provide detailed military planning expertise and analysis based on extensive experience and thorough knowledge of military public affairs, state department public affairs and strategic communication principles and planning.
He/she will assist in planning efforts which will include, but will not be limited to: security operations, military support to public diplomacy, unification and reconciliation, economic development and vocational training, governance and elections support, civil society development, infrastructure rehabilitation, immigration and repatriation, agriculture, medicine and emerging issues and/or topics as directed.
Skills, experience and competencies:

He/she will possess extensive experience of working in mass communications, public/international affairs, strategic communications and alongside media organizations
He/she will have minimum five years experience in providing media and public affairs instruction training and feedback (including experience working with, implementing, training and understanding US military practices.)
Arabic language skills are desirable
Extensive political and cultural knowledge of Iraq and neighbouring countries
