Headquartered in the UK, the company focuses on helping customers across the commercial, government and humanitarian sectors to identify and mitigate operational risk, devising and implementing effective solutions for these firms that solve their security issues and enable them to work securely and confidently. In order to support, develop and grow the firm’s business in Iraq, which is one of their most important markets, our client is seeking to appoint to the post of Business Development Director – Iraq, with the appointee assuming responsibility for leading the company’s sales efforts in this territory. Other responsibilities will include: • Managing the existing customers and contracts in Iraq, developing these relationships by gaining a detailed understanding of their requirements and operations, by building strong relationships with key individuals within the customers, and by working with the delivery teams to ensure ongoing customer satisfaction. To maintain and renew contracts. • Working proactively to develop and broaden the company’s relationship with the US presence in Iraq, seeking out new opportunities and enhancing awareness of the firm’s abilities. • Building new and strengthening existing relationships with the Iraqi government, particularly so as to educate all relevant public sector bodies in the country regarding the possibilities of the contracting environment and thus to ensure that the company is positioned appropriately to win future government led opportunities. • Providing “pathfinder” services to commercial multi-national businesses that do not currently have a presence in Iraq, advising and educating them regarding an entry into the country. To build strong relationships with these firms so that our client wins their contracts in Iraq. • In the absence of the Country Director, assuming responsibility for the operations in Iraq, providing leadership and guidance to the in-country team as required. • Developing one’s understanding of the social, political and economic factors in Iraq, as well as the cultural aspects of operating in the Arab world, using this knowledge to commercial advantage and feeding this information back into the business. • Building a detailed understanding of the company’s products, services and capabilities, as well as of the security/risk consulting sector in general. To develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the firm’s competitors and the activity of both these companies and customers in Iraq. To utilise the information and insight thus gained for competitive commercial advantage. • Assisting line management with the creation of the country business development roadmap, as well as other forms of strategic planning as necessary. • Achieving the sales and other commercial and operational targets. To provide detailed and accurate figures relating to results and to provide forecasts to line management both in Iraq and in the UK as required. The Business Development Director will be based in Baghdad, Iraq, with accommodation provided in a fully secured villa complex. The successful applicant will possess a proven track record in sales with a competitor in the risk management or security sectors, with a business in the construction, engineering or oil and gas industries, or with a commercial business providing infrastructure (such as telecommunications or IT infrastructure, for example). A military background is not required but applicants must be calm under pressure and able and willing to operate in a challenging and potentially hostile environment. Additionally, applicants must demonstrate the ability to build and to manage relationships at the highest levels, to forge into new market sectors and to navigate through layers of government bureaucracy with ease. They should also possess excellent communications, organisational, man-management and planning skills, as well as a confident, self-starting and flexible approach. This role represents a remarkable opportunity to join an international and market leading business in a role that will not only impact directly upon the continued success, growth and viability of our client but will also directly contribute to the re-emergence of stability in Iraq. Furthermore, success in this position should lead to significant future career advancement. Interested applicants should submit their CV, including current salary details, to The Grichan Partnership.
