Mechanic Wheel Vehicle (Gas or Diesel Fueled)

This is a position with a physical rating of heavy. Minimum of three (3) years experience in automotive maintenance repair and service is required. Military experience in 52, 62, and 63 series MOS and knowledge of Army/Marine maintenance technical publications is preferred. Although military experience is preferred, a solid civilian automotive maintenance background to include diesel engine, drive train and suspension experience can be considered.

Must be able to perform services on different types of tactical vehicles, able to replace damaged components, diagnose mechanical and electrical problems, and troubleshoot brakes, suspension, fuel and engine problems. All work performed will be in accordance with applicable Army technical manuals (TMs).

Must have a U.S. passport. Must be able to pass a physical exam due to the harsh living and working conditions. Must also pass a pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen. Must possess a valid U.S. drivers' license. This is a one (1) year assignment. Expect to work 12 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Perform unit/support maintenance (ORG/DS/MEF) and recovery operations on gasoline and diesel fuel light/heavy wheel vehicles including all variants of HMMWV, HET HEMTT, PLS, LMTV / FMTV M923-series 5-ton, and various other tactical vehicles as required.

Responsible for maintaining wheel vehicle systems including, but not limited to, the following: compression ignition fuel injection systems, air intake systems, liquid cooling systems, power assisted brake systems, exhaust systems, air brake systems, all lubricated points and systems, vehicle suspension systems, vehicle/hub assemblies and geared hubs, vehicle mechanical (manual) and power steering systems and vehicle crane/hoist/winch assemblies, and various hydraulic and electrical system.

Able to perform major component replacement such as engines, manual and automatic transmissions, transfers, clutch and differentials. Required to be familiar with OSHA and environmental policies.
May perform tasks associated with a specific trade as directed in order to deliver a maintenance contract.

Perform maintenance inspections and repairs, to include troubleshooting, diagnosing and parts ordering in accordance with applicable technical manuals. Move materials and equipment to work locations and sets up work site. Complete record, maintain tools and equipment, and performs various clean-up and housekeeping activities.

Observe and follow all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment. Perform other duties and activities as directed.

Working Conditions

Extreme danger, stress, physical hardships and possible field living conditions associated with this position within a desert camp complex.

Ability to function during an extended assignment at a foreign, in-country facility exposed to seasonal temperature extremes. Ability to cope with shared cafeteria, bath and sleeping quarters. Must be able to walk, kneel, bend and stoop, and have correctable vision. Supervised by the Site Manager or senior Human Resources personnel.
