Working in Iraq.

There are over 150,000 foreign contractors working in Iraq. Despite the obvious dangers of working in a war zone, high salaries, often with housing and food included, lower tax burdens..and the opportunity to make a difference, are attractive.

The economic growth of Iraq is astounding - since the lifting of sanctions in 2004, the Iraq economy has grown by around 53%. The budget for 2012 is around 100 billion dollars – and that's based on an oil price of $85 a barrel. The central Bank predicts GDP could reach 12% which will go into 2012.

A country that needs a wide range of skills, attracts the largest foreign investors and companies. The work in reconstruction can be highly rewarding, if you are prepared to work in potentially dangerous area.

All trades and professions are sought by a wide range of companies. There are about 50,000 civilian contractors who are supplied by KBR (Halliburton) which has a contract with the military to provide a wide range of basic support skills.

There is obviously an emphasis on the security industry. Around 35000 security contractors work in Iraq of which many were hired by Erinys ,a British security firm, to protect oil installations .

As always, the secret of contracting is constant networking and keeping an eye open for who's getting the contracts....we at All World Jobs would welcome your feedback and your comments and experiences of working in Iraq...you can find us on Facebook...we'd love to hear from you.

And finally, a few companies from the construction and security industries which might be worth watching.
